TALLINN. April 27 (Interfax) - Chairman of the Tallinn city
assembly Toomas Vitsut accused the authorities of leaving the city
unprotected during Thursday night's rioting.
"The massive unrest did not happen by itself. It is lamentable that
the government chose the road of aggravating, not alleviating, the
conflict," he said in a statement received by Interfax on Friday.
"While we managed to gain independence bloodlessly and by doing so
won recognition throughout the world, last night destroyed the
perception of Estonia as a peaceful country," Vitsut said.
By planning its operation on Tonismagi the government "left the
capital city unprotected," he said.
